EDC Inc Server Security and Patch Management Policy

This policy outlines the guidelines and procedures for maintaining the security and integrity of EDC Inc’s servers through effective patch management. It is designed to minimize the vulnerability of our servers to security threats and ensure the continuity of our business operations.

Scope

This policy applies to all servers owned and operated by EDC Inc, including those hosted on-premises and in the cloud. It covers all software and firmware installed on these servers, including operating systems, applications, and utilities.

EDC Inc is committed to maintaining the security and integrity of its servers. To this end, we have established the following policies:

  • All servers must be patched every 30 days, unless an “IT Exception” is approved by “IT Security”.
  • OS patching is managed by IT Server Operations.
  • All patches must be tested in a non-production environment before they are applied to production servers.
  • All patches must be approved by the Change Audit Board (CAB) before they are applied to production servers.
  • All patches must be documented in the Configuration Management Database (CMDB).
  • All servers must be monitored for vulnerabilities and patched as necessary.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following departments have specific roles and responsibilities in the implementation of this policy:

  • IT Server Operations: Responsible for the regular patching of servers and the testing of patches in a non-production environment.
  • IT Security Operations: Responsible for approving “IT Exceptions” and monitoring servers for vulnerabilities.
  • IT Server Build Operations: Responsible for building and configuring servers in accordance with this policy.
  • IT-SOC (Incident management): Responsible for responding to security incidents related to servers.
  • Corporate Physical Security: Responsible for the physical security of on-premises servers.
  • IT Monitoring Operations: Responsible for monitoring servers for performance issues and potential security threats.
  • IT Database Operations: Responsible for the security and integrity of databases hosted on servers.
  • IT Audit and Compliance: Responsible for auditing compliance with this policy and reporting non-compliance to the appropriate IT Director.

Any employee found to have violated this policy may be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment. Any third-party vendor or contractor found to have violated this policy may have their contract terminated.

Review and Update

This policy will be reviewed and updated annually, or as needed, by the IT Security Operations department. Any changes to this policy must be approved by the IT Director of the respective department.
