1.0 Policy Statement
EDC Inc is committed to providing a safe and secure environment for its employees, data, and equipment. As such, all data centers operated by EDC Inc must be equipped with appropriate fire detection and suppression systems. These systems must be maintained and tested regularly to ensure their effectiveness and compliance with local fire codes and industry best practices.
2.0 Scope
This policy applies to all EDC Inc data centers, including those managed by IT Server Operations, IT Server Build Operations, IT-SOC, Corporate Physical Security, IT Security Operations, IT Monitoring Operations, IT Database Operations, and IT Audit and Compliance.
3.0 Fire Detection Systems
All EDC Inc data centers must be equipped with automatic fire detection systems. These systems must be capable of detecting both smoke and heat, and must be connected to the company’s central monitoring system managed by IT Monitoring Operations.
- 3.1 Installation: Fire detection systems must be installed by a qualified professional and must comply with local fire codes.
- 3.2 Maintenance: Fire detection systems must be maintained by IT Server Operations. This includes regular testing and calibration to ensure the system is functioning correctly.
- 3.3 Monitoring: Fire detection systems must be monitored 24/7 by IT Monitoring Operations. Any alarms or malfunctions must be reported to IT-SOC and Corporate Physical Security immediately.
4.0 Fire Suppression Systems
All EDC Inc data centers must be equipped with automatic fire suppression systems. These systems must be designed to suppress fires quickly and effectively, without causing damage to equipment or data.
- 4.1 Installation: Fire suppression systems must be installed by a qualified professional and must comply with local fire codes.
- 4.2 Maintenance: Fire suppression systems must be maintained by IT Server Operations. This includes regular testing to ensure the system is functioning correctly.
- 4.3 Activation: Fire suppression systems must be designed to activate automatically in the event of a fire. Manual activation must also be possible, and all personnel must be trained in how to activate the system.
5.0 Compliance
All fire detection and suppression systems must comply with local fire codes and industry best practices. Compliance is overseen by IT Audit and Compliance, and any non-compliance issues must be reported to the IT Director of the relevant department.
6.0 Exceptions
Any exceptions to this policy must be approved by IT Security. Requests for exceptions must be submitted through the CMDB and will be reviewed by the CAB.

This policy will be reviewed annually by IT Audit and Compliance. Any changes to the policy must be approved by the IT Director of the relevant department and communicated to all affected personnel.
